Impenetrable floating vegetation clogging the surface,
making lure delivery seemingly impossible. Most anglers will
avoid fishing it.

However, as these plants thicken and mat out on the surface,
sunlight is denied to their lower portions, and subsequent
thinning occurs underneath the mat where cavernous voids
develop. Bass locate these underwater caves and thrive
within them. They are the bastions of big bass. This
carpet-like cover conceals fish - and plenty of them. Once
bass take up residence under matted cover, they rarely
leave, says Bernie Schultz.

Getting them out is the challenge. Flipping vertically with
heavy jigs or heavily-weighted soft-plastics is about the
