Chronicles Tips & Tactics Film Clips September 1, 2002
Here's one, ten pounds (at least) landed and released on film by Team Yamamoto's "Ranger Dave" Masterson, host of the Outdoor Chronicles TV show brought to you by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits.
Dave and his guest Allen Spruiell began the evening with a few solid bass on a 6-inch 9L Senko (021 black w/blue), then switched to 8-inch 8-Series Yamamoto worms in the same color. In less than 2 hours off a deep water hump, they landed 18 bass to 5 pounds. By 9 o'clock they had plenty of film footage to make a great show but being the die-hard that he is, David suggested they stay a few more minutes and key in on the deeper side of the hump. David said he made a long cast and let the worm settle to the bottom when he felt the ol' tap-tap on his worm. "I was using a 7' 6'' Falcon Cara rod spooled with 14 lb test Sugoi fluorocarbon, a 3/8-ounce Florida rig screw-in weight, a Mustad 3/0 flipping hook and the Yamamoto 8-inch 8-Series worm.... When the fish picked it up I set the hook hard and knew it was a good fish but I thought she might only go 7 pounds or so until she jumped at the boat and we realized she was a monster! Best of all, was knowing that the film was rolling! I managed to wrestle her to the side and lipped this trophy bass!"
