ICAST is still nearly two months away, but if industry buzz is accurate this is going to be the year of the trolling motor. With the introduction of the Ultrex a few years back, Minn Kota took a substantial lead in what was up until then a two-horse race at the top end. Now it appears that Garmin, Lowrance and possibly one other company (Power Pole?) are going to join the party.
I’ve been getting consistently published in bass magazines and on related websites for over a dozen years now, so even though I sometimes still feel like an absolute rookie, I guess that makes me an old salt. I came into the gig accidentally, with no contacts and no journalism experience, so I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way.
By now many of you have likely seen the Savage Gear 3D Bat, which one the Best Freshwater Hard Lure award at the recently-concluded ICAST trade show. The web and social media have been filled with snickering and criticism about this bait, and perhaps rightfully so, but today I’m here to announce that I fully intend to acquire one.
A friend of mine who is a keen observer of the tackle industry has speculated that either the Savage Gear 3D Rat or the Savage Gear 3D Duck will win one of the annual ICAST awards. Fortunately the show is not in Vegas this year, because he’s so sure of his prediction that otherwise he’d be looking for a sports book in which to bet his house on this outcome.
