I’m not quite sure that I’m ready to go to an 11 ounce bass reel. After all, I’ve gradually sold off all of my old bulletproof green Curados and changed them over to lighter reels just to shave off a few ounces. If I can stomach it, though, I’m pretty sure I’ll get the new Shimano Tranx 300.
Keith Combs, one of the anglers I trust the most on tour, told me it’s the most badass model he’s found for fishing swimbaits and big cranks like the 10XD, with the torque and power to winch up just about everything. I haven’t fished it yet, but if the substance matches the style, it'll be a beautiful ride. Simply put, the reel looks the part – half robot, half weapon.

I’m sure that the double handled version is more powerful, but it’s the Power Handle that makes it look especially forceful, like it could dredge up a brushpile, a sunken 1972 Cadillac De Ville and half of the lake’s bottom composition with a few easy turns. I may never need that much power, but if the weight’s not an impediment, it’ll be nice to know that it‘s there.
