When the controversy over the Alabama Rig first erupted last fall, I was content to remain on the sidelines. If you want it on your circuit, great. If you want to ban it, well, as far as I'm concerned you should live long and prosper. And if you meet in the middle and allow it, but only with a certain number of hooks, go crazy. As long as everyone fishing is on a level playing field, I don't get too upset.
But my agnosticism with respect to this ungainly piece of wire ended yesterday, while walking down an urban sidewalk. I was horrified to see that some people have taken to placing children on the business end of a castable umbrella rig. I'm not sure what they were trolling for, but it can't be anything good. Additionally, I didn't see the hooks or jigheads, but that probably just means they were well-hidden.
Accordingly, I implore you: Ban the use of children on umbrella rigs.
