Ask The Pros Q. and A.

White and Muskeogon Lakes

Q. I’m writing to get any tips regarding fishing White and Muskegon Lakes in Muskegon, MI. My husband and I made it to the tournament in our CATT Bass division but are unfamiliar with these lakes. We know there are lots of smallies and also largemouth bass. We will be fishing them in September. Any suggestions regarding depth and bait?

A. Target docks and grass beds for largemouth, look at the docks on the northeast side of White lake and on Muskegon on the north side look at the grass beds near the sail boat club. Also the point just south west of the shipping terminal has a lot of old wood next to the channel. For smallies check anywhere you can find current around rockie points or the channels coming into both lakes. The water should be cooling off and the shiners moving in that time of year, so the feed should be on. Try spinnerbaits, flukes and of course a Senko.
