Ask The Pros Q. and A.

California General

Southern California Shore Fishing

Q. What plastics or lures would you recommend for southern California shore fishing and some light float tubing? I just moved from NY and I would like to start catching largemouth at the “lake” by my house.

Andy

A. Well Andy, from one Drew to another, if you want to catch one of them famed SoCal trophies, go buy a Huddlston Trout and chuck it day in and dayout. When you get bored of not gettin’ bit, or tired of them 16 pounders yankin’ ya all over that pond, try some of the local stuff, like the Yamamoto Senko, Kut Tails or Kreatures. Texas rigged, dropshot or weightless, take your pick. If you’re into dropshotting, don’t over look RoboWorms - they make some outstanding plastic worms in some very special and productive colors like Aaron’s Magic, Margarita Mutilator I-III, MeadSpecial. The 6” Zipper worm is a good bait to try too. Last but not least, try Carolina rigging a Zoom Brush hog or Lizard in green pumpkin.  The west coast bass will eat the same stuff the east coast bass will! Just depends on the size of the fish you want to chase after.
