Ask The Pros Q. and A.
Beltzville Lake
Q. I fish a lake in eastern PA called Beltzville. During the day the fish seem to chase the main bait source around the lake which is Alfwife Shad. I wondered what I have to do to find bass. I don't know much about the lower half of this lake. In the middle there is about a 50 foot channel and off of the channel are some rocky shoals that are 40 ft off the shoreline. In the middle there is a huge weed bed that goes out about 150 yards and drops off to 40 feet. It is also a very highly pressured lake. Additionally, what lures would you suggest?

A. From the picture you have painted I would say you have a great lake to work on your drop shotting and Carolina rigging. I would try some of the three inch Senkos and four inch gulp smelt on a drop shot. On a rig I would try a six inch Lizard, Senko and a Kut Tail worm. As for colors I would start out with the watermelons and green pumpkins - these are universal and work all over. You'll have to spend time on the water to really figure it out but I really think these two methods will pay off big for you.
