Ron Colby Joins Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits

2001 and 2002 BASS Federation Western Division Champion and 2002 Bassmaster Classic qualifier Ron Colby has joined Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits as webmaster.

Good morning all!! Yeah, yeah I know, its not morning. But just maybe, somewhere on this beautiful planet of ours, perhaps where you are, it is morning...the sky is just turning twilight blue, a slight mist is rising off the water and a soft ripple has appeared where a fish has broken the surface. In a more perfect world we would be there, with fishing rod in hand and the perfect lure, a 9 series Senko, is tied on. A perfect flip, you pause and then it happens….tick. The line is good and starts to sing (you know the sound I'm talking about) as you bring in the fish. While holding this fish you look around and exclaim to no in particular, it is " A GOOD MORNING!"  I love to say that hello phrase no matter what time of the day, it makes me smile and hopefully it will put a smile on the recipient but mostly I get I look of confusion, they just don't know what I am always thinking about.. a good morning!

A few weeks ago I received a phone call from the president of Yamamoto Baits, "Mr. Colby, your mission should you choose to accept it, will be to support a plethora of computer equipment, design and integrate a new web store, travel to far away lands attending sporting goods and boat shows, promote and support our product to the best of your ability. But there is a catch... we need you to keep fishing, as a matter of fact we insist on it!"  Before the standard 10 second self-destruct sequence had passed I was here in Yamamoto headquarters in Page, Arizona with boat in tow. Well maybe not quite that fast, but almost. How many computer jobs come along with a prerequisite that you have to be an avid fisherman?

A few of you know me. Some you know of me. Others are going, who is this whack-o? Here is a brief summary so you get to know me better: 39 years old born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Yes, we have some excellent bass fishing in Utah. The Colby family members include my wonderful and supporting wife Bonnie, 20 years we will be married this coming May, and Brittany, JaCoy and Sheridan, our three lovely children.

Caught my first bass when I was 17 and joined a bass club and the Utah Bass Federation in 1988.  In 2001 and 2002, I won the BASS Federation Western Division Champion, and qualified for the 2002 Bassmaster Classic. I have been using Yamamoto products since the dawn of time, okay ...shortly after Gary decided to start selling his secret baits to the public. I love to have fun and kid around a lot. The best way to tell when I'm doing that... my lips move!!
